Hi Julie B (as I remember you)! :) Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, we're in the middle of moving and things are just crazy hectic around here. Thanks so much for your comment and links, I am definitely going to check out the Free Motion quilting project when I get a moment's rest. As for the machine I got a Babylock Grace which does do everything I want and is very sturdy with a good reputation for lasting a long time. I've only made a few blocks so far but I have several baby quilts in the works that hopefully I'll have both time and room to work on when we get to Texas in 10 days.

So glad you stopped by! Give my best to your family :)

Hi Juliann,
I found your blog through a link on Timmie's FB page (I used to work with him at Natmags about 100 years ago!)and just wanted to say that if you want to try free motion quilting the site I have found most helpful is the Free Motion quilting project...
http://freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/p/start-here.html
Her tips have seriously improved my forays into FMQ, especially modifying the darning/free motion foot.
I don't know if you've come across it but I think it's fab!

On the subject of a new machine I recently upgraded to the Janome 6125QC
http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/Janome6125QC_info.htm
It doesn't tick all your boxes (no stop/start button) but it's a good solidly built machine, I've made a couple of quilts (including really getting going with FMQ) on it so far and been very happy with it. I'd love a Bernina or Pfaff, but until I win the lottery this will have to do!

Here are some pics of recent stuff I've made...
http://tinyurl.com/7nutuya - rag quilt
http://tinyurl.com/85wwyum - quilted laptop bag
http://tinyurl.com/85nfcw3 - first FMQ quilt
http://tinyurl.com/7jgk9j8 - Sashiko jacket

Hope this finds you well and crafty! :-)
